An aikido technique generally consists of three phases:
Stage 1:
Receipt
The entry, which is neutral from a technical perspective.
Stage 2:
Technique
When performing the technique, Tori can adopt two positions in relation to Uke, from which he guides Uke.
Omote Waza
(standing facing Uke)
The technique is performed in front of Uke. Tori directly intersects Uke’s line of force, thereby deflecting it.
Ura Waza
(standing behind Uke)
The technique is performed from behind Uke. Tori deflects Uke’s force into empty space and channels it.
Phase 3:
Conclusion
the end of the technique, during which Uke breaks free by falling or is immobilised by Tori.
The execution of aikido techniques may also be based on various principles of movement, with the nature of the contact between Tori and Uke playing a decisive role here.
